Meeting & Dinner with Dr. Ajoy K. Ray on Sunday, July 11, 2010

Announcement:

Dear Members:

Some time back we had sent you a mail about the Vice Chancellor of Bengal Engineering & Science University, Dr. Ajoy Kumar Ray’s upcoming visit to Washington DC. Some of the members of our alumni association are actively coordinating with the other chapters of B.E.College Alumni Associations in the country to make his visit as fruitful to the alma mater as possible.
We will have an opportunity to meet Mrs. & Dr. Ray and spend some time with them during their stay in this area. That meeting will give us a chance to learn about changes that are being brought about in the campus and direction the institute is headed to under Dr. Ray’s stewardship.
Mrs. Swagata Som & Dr. Tapas Som have very graciously offered to host a meeting and dinner get together at their residence at 18031 Wheatridge Drive, Germantown, MD 20874 on Sunday, July 11, 2010 in honor of Mrs. & Dr. Ray. You are cordially invited to join your fellow B. E. College Alumni members for the meeting and the dinner. The meeting is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm and we expect the dinner to be wrapped up by 9:00 pm, giving the hosts enough time to get set for the week ahead.
This is a family event and family members are welcome. For the practical reason of making arrangement for the meeting we request you to please confirm your attendance. A response may be mailed to this address or directly to Dr. Som at tsom@us.ibm.com

Regards

B.E. COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION- WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN AREA (BECAA-WMA)celebrated anual picnic on 6th. June,2010 at SENECA CREEK STATE PARK, MD.

A great BECAA picnic:

Thank you all for making the BEC picnic last Sunday another wonderful experience where we again relived the shared memories, renewed our bonds, and made new additions to the BECAA-WMA family (young and silver haired and recently born) and enjoyed the "Hrithik Roshan" beating dancing by Shuvo and Geeta. Must say that Shuvo is the new hero of the BECAA-WMA - Tapan-da, who reigned supreme for 3 decades, now moves on to the role of hero "emeritus".
We had 44 adults and 10 children - a pretty good attendance considering that some of our very regular attendees could not attend because of other commitments. Organizing the event for 50+ participants in a flawless manner was no mean achievement and would not have been possible without the helping hands of many:
Jolly boudi did all the hard work of creating the menu, making the shopping list, and doing the actual shopping. The delicious "mangsher jhol" that was cleaned up in no time also came from Jolly boudi's kitchen.
Sikha continued the 15 year old tradition of "garom garom" daal-er bara bhaja that went so well with the muri-makha and also marinated the chicken for Bar-B-Q along with Geeta.
Archana boudi, Sutapa (Biswas), Sutapa (Goswami), and Roma (Gupta) boudi cooked all the wonderful vegetarian dishes which were consumed with a gusto.
Maitri made the chatnee - always my personal favorite.
Alakananda made the Raita - the healthy dish as one would expect from a Physician boudi.
And the last one - that heavenly and creamy "misti doi" came from Manisha boudi - it was so good that by the time the President and Secretary rolled up their sleeves to show their appreciation for this dish - nothing was left. I did some serious investigation to find who had three helpings - all were added to my list of "*&%$#@".
Pallabi organized the children's programs and the prizes - nothing beats watching the smile on those young faces when they received those prizes. Thank you Pallabi.
You may wonder where are the guys? In the true tradition of BEC - the guys were generally not very useful barring some exceptions:
Sanjoy and Sujit spent hrs on the grill Bar-b-Qing - the best slow cooked and well done chicken in BEC Picnic in my memory. Perhaps the taste was really due to the marinated meat prepared by Sikha and Geeta. Asok was occasionally seen pretending to help Pallabi.
Debargha did all the accounting and missed all the fun.
And lastly, Swagata did all the calling and co-ordination with Jolly and made the poor "BECAA-WMA President" go over the check list 10 times to make sure nothing was missing.
We had some new faces that joined the BEC family and the picnic for the first time: Pradipta Shome, Sandip Halder, Baby Rajaditya Goswami, Rumpa and Partha Chanda Roy with baby Sayan.
Pradipta-da,Sandip, Rumpa, Partha - welcome to the BECAA_WMA family.
We missed many of our alumni who could not make it to the picnic - we sure would like to see you all in the Bijoya Sanmeloni being scheduled for the 3rd week of October ( will confirm the final date later).
